In Summation gets the last word in Palos Verdes Waterford Stable's IN SUMMATION (Put It Back) just subdued the pacesetting Barbecue Eddie (Stormy Atlantic) by a neck in the final strides of Monday's $150,000 Palos Verdes H. (G2) at Santa Anita, blazing six furlongs in a Cushion Track record of 1:06 3/5. The top two were reprising their roles from the El Conejo H. (G3) on New Year's Day, where In Summation had likewise collared Barbecue Eddie to establish a new track mark for 5 1/2 furlongs. Dispatched as the 9-5 favorite in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day feature, the Palos Verdes hero gave back $5.60, $3 and $2.20 while keying $1 exotics worth $8.20 (exacta) and $17 (1-3-2 trifecta). (G1) in his synthetic debut and has since posted a dead-heat win in the Arlington Sprint H. and a runner-up showing in the Vernon O. Underwood S. (G3) prior to his El Conejo score. The nine-time stakes star has also placed in three graded stakes. The winner was bred in the Sunshine State by Arthur I.
