Commentator shakes things up in Richter Scale Tracy Farmer's COMMENTATOR (Distorted Humor) was relaxed early while disputing the lead with Elite Squadron (Officer), dropped that one approaching the final turn, and drew off to dominant, 13 3/4-length win in the $190,000 Richter Scale Sprint H. (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. Conditioned by Nick Zito and piloted by John Velazquez, the prohibitive 1-5 choice was never in trouble in clocking the seven-eighths in 1:23 1/5 over the fast oval. The winner paid $2.60, $2.60 and $2.10 while keying the $1 exotics: $28.80 exacta, $132.30 trifecta and $357.20 superfecta (6-8-5-1). Rexson's Rose (Suave Prospect) rallied from off the pace to earn second as the 61-1 longshot, good for $18.40 and $5.80. Elite Squadron held on for third another length back, paying $4.40 at 21-1 in the process. Grand Champion (Two Punch) was next and trailed by Steve's Double (Stephen Got Even) and Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk (Mutakddim). Chatain (Forest Wildcat) and King of the Roxy (Littleexpectations) scratched. Commentator now boasts a solid 17-11-0-2 career mark, which includes stakes scores in the Whitney H. (G1), Perryville S., Richmond Runner S. and Mugatea S. The speedster, who established a track mark in his prep for this event, also owns placings in the Woodward S. (G1) and Tom Fool H. (G2). The Empire State-bred was bred by Michael Martinez and brought the gavel down at $135,000 at the 2002 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearling sale. He is the first foal out of the unraced Storm Bird mare Outsource and has a yearling, and 2008, unnamed full sister. The seven-year-old chestnut gelding has now banked $971,936.
