Carolyn's Cat easy winner of eventful Cicada CAROLYN'S CAT (Forestry) outhustled her four rivals at the start, repulsed a challenge from Dill Or No Dill (Evansville Slew) turning for home, and then survived a stewards' inquiry to claim victory in the $106,000 Cicada S. (G3) for three-year-old fillies at Aqueduct. With Alan Garcia aboard, Carolyn's Cat covered six furlongs over a fast track in 1:10. The race was marred by the poor start of Throbbin' Heart (Smoke Glacken), who stumbled badly leaving the gate and nearly unseated jockey Stewart Elliot, who lost his irons. Carolyn's Cat, who broke to the immediate right of Throbbin' Heart, crossed over that rival soon after the start but was judged not to have been the cause of any interference. Carolyn's Cat quickly made her way to the rail with Dill Or No Dill pressing her less than a length behind through fractions of :22 1/5 and :45. Dill Or No Dill moved up to challenge Carolyn's Cat turning for home, but Carolyn's Cat found another gear and began to draw away in the stretch while Dill Or No Dill dropped back and was eventually passed by Ready for Fortune (More Than Ready). Carolyn's Cat had no anxious moments thereafter, scoring by 3 3/4 lengths. Ready for Fortune was 4 1/4 lengths clear of Dill Or No Dill, who was followed by True Intentions (Officer) and Throbbin' Heart. With only four wagering interests due to the scratch of Psycho D J (Indian Charlie), there was no show or trifecta wagering. Carolyn's Cat, the 8-5 favorite, paid $5.40 and $2.90 and Ready for Fortune paid $2.80 to place. The exacta (4-1) returned $15.80. The Cicada was the third win in six starts for Carolyn's Cat, and her second consecutive stakes win. In her previous start, Carolyn's Cat had captured the six-furlong T Storm S. at Aqueduct on January 31. Carolyn's Cat's career mark now stands at 6-3-1-0 and career earnings of $154,615. Bred in Kentucky by Summer Wind Farm, Carolyn's Cat is owned by Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren Jr. and is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. Carolyn's Cat is the only winner to date from the mare People's Princess (Meadowlake), who captured the Rare Treat H. (G3) at Aqueduct during her racing career. People's Princess has an unraced two-year-old, People's Prince (Speightstown); a yearling full sister to Carolyn's Cat, Forest Valentine; and newborn colt named Ordained (Pulpit). Carolyn's Cat was purchased for $650,000 at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga August sale.
