Temporary Saint wires Excelsior field Maggi Moss' TEMPORARY SAINT (Awesome Again) sped to the front early and never looked back in posting a 1 1/2-length win in the $150,533 Excelsior H. (G3) at Aqueduct on Saturday. Trained by Bruce Levine and piloted by Chuckie Lopez, the gelding established splits of :23 4/5, :48 2/5, 1:13 3/5 and 1:38 prior to finishing off nine panels in 1:51 over the fast oval. Sent off at 11-1, the winner paid $24.20, $8.60 and $7.70 while keying the $123 exacta, $678 trifecta and $2,564 superfecta (5-3-4-2). Nite Light (Thunder Gulch) was never far from the pace but was outmoved turning for home, gamely staying on for the place as the 5-2 favorite to return $4.40 and $3.50. It was a neck farther back to Angliana (Giant's Causeway) at 7-1, who was three parts of a length clear of 5-2 second choice Magna Graduate (Honor Grades). Show returned $4.40. Naughty New Yorker (Quiet American) was fifth and trailed by Wafi City (E Dubai), Malibu Moonshine (Malibu Moon) and Evening Attire (Black Tie Affair [Ire]). Mayan King (Stephen Got Even) was withdrawn. Temporary Saint, second in the Stymie H. last out, improved his mark to 23-6-4-4 in earning his first stakes win. The five-year-old gray, who was claimed for $50,000 in his 2007 finale, boosted his earnings to $233,959 in the process. The winner was bred in Kentucky by Adena Springs and bought for the bargain price of $7,000 at the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He was produced from the multiple stakes-winning No Foul Play (Great Gladiator) and has an unnamed yearling half-brother by Macho Uno.
