Rite Moment impresses in Bed o' Roses Winning Move Stable et al's RITE MOMENT (Vicar) confronted early leader Cowgirls Don't Cry (Pure Prize) approaching the final turn and was never under duress throughout the stretch in posting a solid 1 1/4-length win in the $158,100 Bed o' Roses H. (G2) at Aqueduct on Saturday. Trained by Gary Contessa and piloted by Rajiv Maragh, the bay filly finished off seven panels in 1:22 3/5 as the nearly 4-1 third choice. The winner paid $9.90, $4.40 and $3.70 while topping the $35.40 exacta and $237 trifecta. Lady Marlboro (Smoke Glacken) had no early speed and was 4 1/2 lengths back after the opening half-mile, but the four-year-old closed with excellent energy to finish a clear second at nearly 3-1. The runner-up was worth $4.20 and $3.10. Cowgirls Don't Cry showed good courage to hang on to the show spot at 14-1, returning $5.30 in the process. Golden Dawn (Hennessy), the even-money choice, was well placed in third to the stretch but had little left in the final furlong and could do no better than fourth, three lengths shy of a placing. Sutra (Meadowlake) was next and was trailed by You Asked (Yes It's True). Rite Moment has been razor sharp since transferring to the Contessa barn, compiling five wins from six tries, including the Distaff H. (G2) and Limit S. in her last pair. The Kentucky-bred has amassed $339,102 in earnings from a 12-6-3-0 lifetime line. Bred in Kentucky by Charles Nuckols Jr. & Sons, the winner was produced from the winning Moments of Joy (Lost Code) and has a two-year-old half-sister named Joy Street (Street Cry [Ire]), an unnamed yearling half-sister by Marquetry and an unnamed 2008 half-brother by Grand Slam.
