Misty Ocean's heart on display in Honeymoon

Jim Plemmons' homebred MISTY OCEAN (Stormy Atlantic) dictated the pace, was headed in midstretch, but dug down deep to reclaim the advantage late in Saturday's $173,250 Honeymoon H. (G2) at Hollywood Park. The Jerry Hollendorfer filly was eager to run in the early stages, rattling off fractions of :23 3/5, :47 3/5 and 1:11 4/5 while Joel Rosario was trying to get her to harness her speed. Sweeter Still (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar [Ire]), who had been tracking in second, launched her bid in the stretch and briefly put her head in front. Misty Ocean would not stand for that, though, and reasserted herself to inch away by three-quarters of a length at the wire. The bay filly negotiated 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 2/5 on the firm turf, paying $11.60, $6.60 and $4.40 at 9-2.

Bel Air Sizzle (Unusual Heat), who completely missed the break, rallied from last to grab second by three-quarters of a length. The 7-2 runner-up returned $4.60 and $3.20. Sweeter Still held third by one length and yielded $3.80 at 5-1. The $1 exacta was good for $33.60, the $1 trifecta totaled $150.60, and with 8-5 favorite Missit (Ire) (Orpen) winding up fourth, the 2-9-3-5 superfecta ($1) was valued at $367.30. Magical Fantasy (Diesis [GB]) and Gorgeous Goose (Mongoose) completed the order of finish. Divine Legacy (Full Mandate), Fire n' Brimstone (Pulpit) and Lethal Heat (Unusual Heat) were all scratched in favor of Sunday's Hollywood Oaks (G2) on the main track.

Bred in Kentucky, Misty Ocean now brandishes a mark of 10-4-0-1 with $191,462 in her account. She is currently riding a three-race winning streak, having captured an allowance/optional claimer at Bay Meadows and the Golden Poppy S. at Golden Gate Fields in her past two.

Misty Ocean was produced by the Lypheor (GB) mare Shocking Sport, who is also the dam of stakes winners Gala Knockout (Two Punch) and Shock Value (Private Terms), as well as an unraced juvenile filly named In Norm's Honour (Honour and Glory).
