Dearest Trickski romps in A Gleam

Tom Mankiewicz's DEAREST TRICKSKI (Proudest Romeo) broke best from the outside post and gained a facile early edge in the A Gleam H. (G2), spelling doom for her 10 foes. Trained by John Sadler, who earlier won the American H. (G2) with Whatsthescript (Ire) (Royal Applause [GB]) and the Landaluce S. with Emmy Darling (Graeme Hall), Dearest Trickski led the group through splits of :22 4/5 and :45 2/5 for the opening half-mile under a statuesque Mike Smith. Nearing the final turn, the four-year-old felt some brief pressure but quickly opened up on the field when asked for her best, eventually reaching the wire in a solid 1:21 2/5 for seven furlongs. The nearly 7-1 winner rewarded backers with mutuels of $15.80, $7.60 and $4.80.

"It was all about getting her into a rhythm," Smith stated. "She caught a flyer leaving there today. I was able to put my hands down and just let her get her neck out. She ran dynamite."

Magnificience (Stormy Atlantic) broke in the air and had to spend the entirety of the race wide, but the classy filly stayed on to register a brave second-place performance as the lukewarm 5-2 favorite. The runner-up paid $4.60 and $3.60 while completing the $33.20 exacta ($1). Romance is Diane (In Excess [Ire]) was third, good for $5.60, and concluded the $293.90 trifecta ($1). The $1 superfecta (11-10-5-9) was good for $1,138.40 with 9-2 second-choice Intangaroo (Orientate) on the bottom. She was followed by Tiz Elemental (Cee's Tizzy), Spenditallbaby (Unusual Heay), Petite Cherie (Ire) (Fasliyev), Dawn After Dawn (Successful Appeal), Ashley's Kitty (Tale of the Cat), Political Web (Petionville) and Missvinski (Stravinsky).

Dearest Trickski has now reeled off wins in nine of her last 11 starts, highlighted by a conquer in the La Brea S. (G1) in late December, and now owns a 15-10-2-0 line and a $540,108 bankroll. Produced from the stakes-placed Trickski (Peteski), the bay winner has an unnamed two-year-old half-sister by Snow Ridge and an unnamed yearling half-brother by Freefourinternet. She was bred by Drs. K. K. and V. Devi Jayaraman.
