Closeout just gets up in Pucker Up Glen Hill Farm's homebred CLOSEOUT (Repriced) raced near the back for much of Saturday's $200,000 Pucker Up S. (G3) at Arlington Park but was in front when it mattered -- at the wire. With Jamie Theriot in the irons, the Tom Proctor-trained three-year-old put in a furious rally in late stretch to post a half-length score while finishing up the 1 1/8-mile, soft turf test in 1:53 1/5. She paid $10.40, $4.80 and $3.80 while keying the $66 exacta, $1,036.60 trifecta and $6,502.40 superfecta (9-2-5-4) as the 4-1 third choice. Lucky Copy (Unbridled's Song) opened up a clear lead through fractions of :23 4/5, :48, 1:12 1/5 and 1:39. The pace began to wear on the filly nearing the wire, though, and she was unable to hold off Closeout while finishing 1 1/4 lengths clear of third-placer Clear Pond (Dynaformer). Lucky Copy was worth $4.60 and $4.20 as the 5-2 favorite, while Clear Pond gave back $12.40 as the 30-1 ninth pick. Tight Precision (Pure Precision) was a nose up on Much Obliged (Kingmambo), who in turn finished a head clear of sixth-placer Gone Theatrical (Theatrical [Ire]). Completing the order under the wire were Mushka (Empire Maker), Jazz Jam (GB) (Pivotal), Apple Martini (Giant's Causeway), Bel Air Sizzle (Unusual Heat), Dreaming of Liz (El Prado [Ire]), Return to Paradise (El Prado [Ire]) and Nijinsky Ballet (Rahy). Closeout's biggest score before Saturday's Pucker Up win came in the Audubon Oaks on July 12 at Ellis Park. She followed up that stakes debut win with a second in the Madame Jumel S. last out. With this victory, the Florida-bred bay's career mark now reads 7-4-2-0 and she more than doubled her earnings to $211,196. Closeout is out of the unraced Relaunch mare Deep Discount, making her a full sister to an unnamed yearling colt and weanling filly as well as Grade 3 winner Capital Request, who is herself the dam of last year's Calder Oaks victress and this season's Matchmaker S. (G3) third Cozzi Capital (Cozzene). The Pucker Up winner comes from the same family as multiple Grade 1-placed stakes winner Major Impact (Roberto) and multiple Grade 3 hero Concept Win (Manila).
