All American goes to Delightful Kiss

Hobeau Farm's homebred DELIGHTFUL KISS (Kissin Kris) rallied from last to first to record a one-length victory in Saturday's $211,800 All American S. (G3) at Golden Gate Fields. Runner-up and 3-5 favorite Awesome Gem (Awesome Again) got the jump on the four-year-old gelding, reaching the top of the stretch with a narrow advantage, but Delightful Kiss dispatched his rival in midstretch and edged clear under Calvin Borel. Trained by Pete Anderson, the winner notched his second consecutive stakes victory when completing 1 1/8 miles over the Tapeta in 1:49 2/5.

The 2-1 second choice in the seven-horse field, Delightful Kiss returned $6.40, $2.60 and $2.10 to his supporters. It was basically a two-horse race with Awesome Gem finishing eight lengths clear of third-placer Saratoga's Magic (Tactical Cat). The runner-up paid $2.20 and $2.10, and show gave back $2.60 at 8-1. Asperity (War Chant), Assessment (Jump Start), Our Partner (Partner's Hero) and Victorian Prince (Ire) (Desert Prince [Ire]) came next under the wire. The $1 exacta yielded $5.60, and the $1 trifecta (2-7-1) was $20.20.

Bred in Florida, Delightful Kiss is out of the winning Deputy's Delight (French Deputy) and counts the unraced juvenile colt Trust the Deputy (Trust N Luck), a yearling colt by Honour and Glory and a 2008 filly by Limehouse as half-siblings. This is the female family of 2000 Forego H. (G2) winner Shadow Caster (Future Storm). Delightful Kiss captured the 2007 runnings of the Ohio Derby (G2) and Iowa Derby, and entered the All American off a score in the Turfway Park Fall Championship S. (G3) on September 6, a victory that earned him an automatic berth to the inaugural running of the Breeders' Cup Marathon on October 25. The gray has now earned $708,887 from his 20-6-3-2 line.
