IEAH Stables et al's LARAGH (Tapit) did what she does best in Saturday's
$438,500
Hollywood Starlet (G1), taking early control and leading her rivals on a
merry chase around the racetrack. Under Edgar Prado, the 8-5 favorite set
comfortable splits of :23 4/5, :47 and 1:10 2/5 before finishing up one length
to the good in 1:41 4/5 for 1 1/16 miles on the Hollywood Park Cushion Track.
Laragh returned $5.40, $3.80 and $3.40 while keying the $1 exotics of $28
(exacta) and $198.80 (2-4-1 trifecta).
Wynning Ride (Candy Ride [Arg]) enjoyed a ground-saving trip, moved off the
rail turning for home, and was a grinding second by 2 3/4 lengths at 12-1 in her
two-turn debut. She brought back $8.40 and $4.80 while 14-1 shot Toro Bonito
(El Corredor), the early trailer, rallied to be third and paid $6.20. Alpha
Kitten (Tale of the Cat), Dave's Revenge (The Cliff's Edge), Pamona Ball
(Pleasantly Perfect) and Black Magic Mama (Black Mambo) completed the order of
finish.
A maiden winner in her second start over the Woodbine Polytrack, Laragh
retreated to fifth in her stakes debut, the grassy Natalma S. (Can-G3). Moved
from the barn of trainer Mark Casse to that of John Terranova, Laragh rebounded
to take the October 9 Jessamine S. over the Keeneland turf by 4 3/4 lengths.
More recently, the gray held a lead with a furlong to go in the Breeders' Cup
Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita before tiring to third as the 5-2 choice.
Her line now reads 6-3-0-1, $509,465.
