Wasted Tears easily makes it three straight in Ouija Board Unraced since November, WASTED TEARS (Najran) returned with a dominant performance in Monday's $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff (G3), drawing off to a five-length decision. The classy six-year-old mare posted her third consecutive win in the one-mile turf affair at Lone Star Park. Bred, owned and trained by Bart Evans, Wasted Tears picked up the services of Julien Leparoux and showed her typical speed from the start, but Sheer Beauty (Mizzen Mast) sprinted to the fore and led the 2-5 favorite by a length through a quarter-mile in :22 3/5. Wasted Tears pressured the speedster down the backstretch, moving forward to put a head in front after a half-mile in :46 1/5. After edging clear on the far turn, Wasted Tears accelerated away from her six overmatched rivals into the stretch, passing the three-quarters mark in 1:09 3/5 with a daylight advantage, and Leparoux wrapped up late on the convincing winner. She stopped the teletimer in 1:34 over the firm course. Category Seven (Gulf Storm), the 5-1 third choice in the wagering, rallied to be a clear second, 3 1/4 lengths better than 4-1 second favorite Sheer Beauty. The Cat Who (Magic Cat) came next in fourth and was followed under the wire by Slide on Bye (Smart Strike), Cherry Pink (Pure Prize) and Bella Diamante (Lost Soldier). Now a six-time stakes winner, Wasted Tears has earned $889,598 from a 19-12-2-0 ledger. The Kentucky-bred dark bay placed in the 2007 La Senorita S., her second career start, but she really flourished later in her career. Wasted Tears kicked off a seven-race win streak when opening 2009 in an allowance at Lone Star Park and followed with her first edition of the Ouija Board, scoring in a course-record 1:32.81. However, the front runner was then sidelined by a staph infection for the rest of 2009. Wasted Tears kicked off her 2010 campaign with an allowance/optional claiming win at Gulfstream Park, which served as the ideal prep for her wire-to-wire tally in the Honey Fox S. (G3). She proceeded to post her biggest win to date, defeating champion Forever Together in the Jenny Wiley S. (G2) at Keeneland. After defending her title in the Ouija Board, Wasted Tears shipped to Del Mar to capture the John C. Mabee (G2) off an 86-day layoff. She concluded last year with a fifth in the First Lady (G1) at Keeneland and a second in the November 26 Matriarch (G1) at Hollywood Park. Produced by the stakes-winning Wishes and Roses (Greinton [GB]), Wasted Tears is a half-sister to stakes winners Wishingitwas (Sandpit [Brz]) and Almost Certain (Favorite Trick). Wishes and Roses is herself a half-sibling to Grade 3 heroine Bully Bones (Hesabull) and Irish listed winner Approvance (With Approval). Wasted Tears' fifth dam is the noted matron The Garden Club (*Herbager). To list only one line of descent from her, she is the dam of Grade 2 victress Up the Flagpole (Hoist the Flag), who in turn produced Broodmare of the Year Prospectors Delite (Mr. Prospector), the dam of Horse of the Year Mineshaft (A.P. Indy).
