Blind Luck, American Lion look ahead to rescheduled races

Blind Luck has to wait an extra week to make her three-year-old debut (Benoit Photos) When Santa Anita was forced to cancel racing this past Saturday after a deluge of rain, two of the track's significant three-year-old races scheduled for that day had to be postponed. Both the Las Virgenes S. (G1), a one-mile test for sophomore fillies, and the Robert B. Lewis S. (G2), a 1 1/16-mile affair, have been rescheduled for this upcoming Saturday. Accordingly, the connections of BLIND LUCK (Pollard's Vision), a prohibitive favorite for the Las Virgenes, and AMERICAN LION (Tiznow), a leading contender in the Lewis, are fine-tuning their plans in light of the postponement. "Blind Luck will have an easy work Tuesday," Dan Ward, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. "She's very smart." Ward recalled a similar delay involving a past Hollendorfer-trained star, Heatseeker (Ire).

"Two years ago, when Heatseeker ran second in the San Antonio (G2), they had pushed it back so that there were only three weeks until the Santa Anita H. (G1), and he won anyway, so there wasn't much difference," Ward noted.

Blind Luck, who captured last year's Hollywood Starlet S. (G1) and Oak Leaf S. (G1), is one of only eight fillies nominated to the 2010 Triple Crown.

The colt American Lion, last seen landing the Hollywood Prevue S. (G3), is scheduled to work Monday in advance of the Lewis.

"No major adjustments," trainer Eoin Harty said. "We'll just try again."

Mike Machowsky expressed similar sentiment when asked about unbeaten Lewis contender CARACORTADO (Cat Dreams).

"He'll work five furlongs Monday, and there's not much difference from his routine," the trainer said. "We'll just keep him in shape until the race."

Caracortado extended his mark to four-for-four in the California Breeders' Champion S. last out.
