Giant's Causeway colt brings $260,000 at Keeneland A Giant's Causeway colt out of multiple Grade 2 winner Smok'n Frolic (Smoke Glacken) commanded a top price of $260,000 from All the Rage Partners at Tuesday's session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The April 14 foal was part of the Adena Springs consignment and toured the ring as Hip No. 2510. Smok'n Frolic, who counted the Cotillion H. (G2) and Demoiselle S. (G2) as signature wins, was also a four-time winner at the Grade 3 level and finished second in the Spinaway S. (G1). The yearling's third dam, Grade 2 winner Cherokee Frolic (Cherokee Fellow), is the ancestress of Grade 2 winners Super Frolic (Pine Bluff) and Frolic's Dream (Smoke Glacken) and Grade 3 winners Fabulous Frolic (Green Dancer) and Lindsay Frolic (Mt. Livermore). Hip 2635, a May 3 Sky Mesa colt offered by Lane's End, brought $230,000 from Hartley/De Renzo. He was produced by Boardroom Scandal (Fusaichi Pegasus), a half-sister to 1995 Blue Grass S. (G2) winner Wild Syn (Wild Again). Other notables from this family are 2002 Spinaway S. (G1) queen Awesome Humor (Distorted Humor) and 1983 Arlington-Washington Futurity (G1) winner All Fired Up (Timeless Moment). The session's most expensive filly also hailed from the Lane's End consignment. Offered as Hip 2756, the Dixie Union lass fetched $200,000 from W.D. North Thoroughbreds. Produced from the winning Icy Demeanor (Allen's Prospect), the January 30 foal is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Your Flame in Me (Boundary). Other notables from this family are champion sprinter and sire Smoke Glacken (Two Punch) and Grade 2 winners Smokey Glacken (Forestry) and Miss Slewpy (Slewpy). The filly was previously a $40,000 Keeneland November weanling. On Tuesday, 274 yearlings sold for $9,744,700, a decline of 31 percent from the corresponding session a year ago when 270 head brought $14,116,400. The session average was down 32 percent, from $52,283 to $35,565, while the median was off 37.5 percent, from $40,000 to $25,000. Cumulatively, 1,747 yearlings have sold for $171,778,500, a decline of 41.9 percent from a year ago when 1,967 head grossed $295,453,300. The sale average is down 34.5 percent, from $150,205 to $98,328, while the median is off 42.1 percent, from $95,000 to $55,000.
