Jazil weanling colt brings $77,000 at OBS

A weanling colt from the first crop of 2006 Belmont S. (G1) winner Jazil brought a final bid of $77,000 from Baccari Bloodstock to lead all offerings at Monday's Consigner Preferred session of the 2009 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Fall Mixed Sale. The February 8 foal, who toured the ring as Hip No. 197, was consigned by Barry Menefee, agent.

The Florida-bred was produced by Pelicus Affair (Pentelicus), a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Pine Dance (Pine Bluff) and the stakes-winning producer Village Dancer (Mythical Ruler), the dam of multiple stakes winner and Grade 2-placed The Happy Hopper (El Prado [Ire]). This is the family of Canadian Grade 3 winner Mulrainy (Star de Naskra).

A Yes It's True weanling filly was bought by Twin Peaks Racing for $52,000. The February 17 foal, who sported Hip 57, was offered by Summerfield (Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent.

Produced by the Grade 2-placed City College (Carson City), the Kentucky-bred is a half-sister to the Irish stakes-placed Trinity College (Giant's Causeway). The filly's second dam, Nellie Forbes (Secretariat), was a half-sister to dual classic winner and champion Bold Forbes (Irish Castle) and the ancestress of European highweight Imperial Beauty (Imperial Ballet [Ire]) and English Group 3 winner Midnight Air (Green Dancer), herself the dam of Grade 2 winner Midnight Line (Kris S.).

The session's most expensive broodmare prospect was the winning LAKES FOLLY (Exploit), a seven-year-old bought by La Mulera Corp. for $50,000. Hip 56 was consigned by T-Square Stud, agent.

Produced from the multiple stakes-winning Circus Toons (Wild Again), Lakes Folly is a half-sister to the multiple German Group 3 winner Love Regardless (Storm Bird). Circus Toons is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winners Grand Circus Park (Apalachee) and Circus Surprise (Storm Bird), as well as the stakes-winning producer Circus Media (Mt. Livermore).

The dam of an unnamed yearling filly by Strong Hope, Lakes Folly is in foal to Birdstone on an April 22 cover.

On Monday, 132 head sold for $1,467,900, a decline of 24 percent from the Consignor Preferred session of last year's three-day sale when 106 horses realized $1,931,600. The session average declined 39 percent, from $18,223 to $11,120, while the median was halved, from $12,000 to $6,000. The buyback percentage was 40.3 percent, compared to 53 percent in 2008.

The two-day sale concludes Tuesday with an open session beginning at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). For more information, visit obssales.com.
