BC Mile hero Singletary sires first winner SINGLETARY (Sultry Song), winner of the 2004 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) at Lone Star Park, was represented by his first winner on Monday when the two-year-old gelding Mikeswayorthehiway rallied to win the 6TH race at Santa Anita, a $32,000 maiden claiming event over a mile on the Pro-Ride. Under Joel Rosario, the dark bay prevailed by three parts of a length in a time of 1:39 4/5. The California-bred is owned by co-breeder and trainer Mike Mitchell along with Tommy Huttons Dream Stable. Bred in Kentucky by Disler Farms and sold for a mere $3,200 as a Keeneland October yearling, Singletary bankrolled $1,754,312 from a line of 22-8-5-3. Campaigned by Little Red Feather Racing and trained by Donald Chatlos Jr., Singletary registered his only top-level score in the Breeders' Cup Mile, but also accounted for the Oak Tree Mile (G2) and Arcadia H. (G2) in 2005, San Francisco Mile (G2) and Thunder Road H. in 2004, and La Jolla H. (G3) and Academy Road S. in 2003. Singletary's graded placings occurred in editions of the Shoemaker Mile (G1), Eddie Read H. (G1), Frank E. Kilroe Mile H. (G2), Oak Tree Mile and Will Rogers S. (G3). He was eighth in his final career start when defending his title in the 2005 Breeders' Cup Mile at Belmont Park. Produced from the unraced Joiski's Star (Star de Naskra), Singletary currently stands for $2,500 at Harris Farms near Coalinga, California.
