D'wildcat weanling colt goes for $47,000 at OBS D' BUS (D'wildcat), a weanling colt out of Garopaba (River Special), brought a final bid of $47,000 from Lucky Equine at Tuesday's open session of the 2009 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Fall Mixed Sale. Consigned by Sonshine Acres, the March 27 foal sported Hip No. 443. D' Bus's third dam, the Del Mar Debutante winner Brown Berry (Mount Marcy), produced the 1975 Belmont S. (G1) winner Avatar (Graustark) and 1988 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) (Fr-G1) winner Hours After (Alleged). This is also the family of Grade 2-winning producer Afto (Relaunch). The session's highest-selling broodmare prospect was the multiple stakes-placed BABYEXPECTATIONS (Valid Appeal), an 11-year-old consigned by Live Oak Stud. She was sold to Baccari Bloodstock for $40,000 and toured the ring as Hip 535. Produced from the stakes-winning Mepache (Iron Constitution), Babyexpectations is a full sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Valid Expectations, Grade 3 queen Little Sister and the stakes winners Littleexpectations and Miss Valid Pache. She is also a half-sister to the Grade 3-placed Red Apache (End Sweep) and stakes-placed Copelan's Pache (Copelan). This is the family of champion and Hall of Famer Foolish Pleasure (What a Pleasure). The dam of a weanling colt by Sweetsouthernsaint, Babyexpectations is in foal to Corinthian on an April 14 cover. Tuesday's session saw 169 horses gross $888,300 for an average of $5,256 and a median of $3,000. The buyback rate was 41.1 percent. There were two open sessions of the sale last year, when 274 horses sold for $1,478,000. The average was $5,394, the median was $3,000, and the buyback rate was 43.6 percent. Cumulatively, $2,356,200 was realized from the sale of 301 horses over one preferred session and one open session this week, a decline of 30.9 percent from last year when 380 horses brought $3,409,600 over one preferred session and two open sessions.
