Amadeus Wolf colt tops Goffs' second session

After a low-key opening session, which witnessed a 42 percent clearance rate, the second day of the Goffs November Foal Sale saw the action turned up a notch on Wednesday. With 64 percent sold and the average and median at a healthy 10,784 and 8,000 respectively, the latest renewal looks to be holding its own at present.

Topping proceedings was a colt from the first crop of top-class sprinter Amadeus Wolf who sold to Peter Doyle Bloodstock for 60,000. From Gary Swift Sales, Hip No. 382 is from one of The Queen's finest families and his dam, Kirk Wynd (Selkirk), is a half-sister to 2004 Dubai Duty Free (UAE-G1) dead-heater Right Approach (Machiavellian).

"I've bought him for Pier House Stud to be resold next autumn," Ross Doyle said. "He's a very nice sort with plenty of size about him which you would like. Also he's by a sire whose first foals this week have been a good bunch."

Two fillies shared top billing when selling for 42,000 apiece. Hip 321 is by Medicean, who has been in demand this autumn, and the Ballybin Stud consignee from the family of Grade 2-winning sire Northern Afleet (Afleet) and Grade 1 heroine Tap to Music (Pleasant Tap) was knocked down to Keith Harte Bloodstock.

"I've bought her for a client to be reoffered next year," Harte explained. "She's a lovely filly with a nice temperament and is very typical of the sire."

The other top-priced filly, consigned by J.K. Thoroughbreds as Hip 407, hails from the first crop of Heliostatic and is out of the listed winner Midris (Ire) (Namid). The chestnut lass was also snapped up by Peter Doyle Bloodstock.

Selling continues Thursday. Full results can be found on www.goffs.com.
