Grade 2 producer Sci Fi Kin tops Barretts sale SCI FI KIN, a winning 13-year-old daughter of Siphon who has been bred exclusively to California's leading sire Unusual Heat, sold for $60,000 to Ron Stolich at Monday's 2012 Barretts January Mixed Sale in Pomona, California. Sci Fi Kin was consigned by Harris Farms, agent, and toured the ring as Hip No. 47. Sci Fi Kin was sold in foal to Unusual Heat on an April 29 cover. Previous matings of the two have resulted in the Grade 2-winning filly Pretty Unusual and the multiple stakes-placed Jax El. Pretty Unusual captured the 2010 Grade 2 El Encino Stakes, a race also won by Sci Fi Kin's dam, Akinemod (Time to Explode), in 1990. At the conclusion of trading Monday, 162 horses sold for $982,500. This was a decline of 27.7 percent from last year when 256 horses sold for $1,359, 400. However, the average and median saw rises of 14.2 percent and 20 percent, respectively. The average jumped from $5,310 to $6,065, while the median rose from $2,500 to $3,000. Full results can be found at www.barretts.com.
