Into Mischief colt tops Barretts juvenile sale
Hip 41, a Tale of the Cat colt, sold to Gayle Van Leer, agent, for $300,000. The February 1 Kentucky-bred was consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent. The bay was produced by the winning La Danielle (Danehill), a half-sister to Group 3-placed stakes winner Excusez Moi (Fusaichi Pegasus). He hails from the family of Arrive and Hasili, full sisters by Kahyasi who were both named Broodmare of the Year in England, as well as grass champion and sire Leroidesanimaux (Candy Stripes). Hasili's production record has been particularly noteworthy, as she produced champion turf mares Banks Hill and Intercontinental, Canadian Horse of the Year Champs Elysees, English and French highweight Dansili, and multiple Grade 1 winners Heat Haze and Cacique. All were sired by Danehill, with the exception of Heat Haze (Green Desert). This was the fourth time through the sales ring for the colt, who worked an eighth in :10 at the under tack show. He previously sold for $75,000 as a Keeneland November weanling and for $145,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. However, he went unsold for $290,000 at the OBS two-year-old sale in March. A Malibu Moon colt was sold to David Bienstock and Charles N. Winner for $260,000. Offered by Sequel Bloodstock (Becky Thomas), agent, the April 2 Kentucky-bred toured the ring as Hip 32. Reared by the Grade 2-winning Jill Robin L. (Precocity), the colt is a half-brother to the Grade 3-placed Capitol Appeal (Successful Appeal). A $200,000 yearling buy at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale last August, the colt worked one furlong in :10 1/5 at the under tack show. Business was up substantially at the conclusion of trading Monday, as 88 horses sold for $4,869,200. This was a spike of 63 percent over last year when 69 juveniles sold for $2,986,500. The average was up 27.8 percent, from $43,283 to $55,332, while the median rose 30.4 percent, from $23,000 to $30,000. For complete results, visit barretts.com.
