Afleet Alex colt tops another brisk day of trade at Keeneland Business continued to be brisk on the eighth day of Keeneland's September Yearling Sale on Tuesday. One day after surpassing last year's total gross, the auction company reported that 1,711 yearlings had changed hands for $253,257,000, a rise of 23.1 percent over this point in 2012 when 1,843 head had sold for $205,813,000. The average is up 32.5 percent, from $111,672 to $148,017, while the median has risen 35.7 percent, from $70,000 to $95,000. For the session, 303 yearlings sold for $16,383,000, a rise of 40.6 percent over last year's eighth day when 302 horses sold for $11,648,500. The session average increased 40.2 percent, from $38,571 to $54,069, while the median jumped 50 percent, from $35,000 to $45,000. Tara Bella Farm purchased the session topper, a son of Afleet Alex, for $280,000. Hip No. 2446 was offered by Betz Thoroughbreds, agent. The April 23 Kentucky-bred colt was reared by the multiple stakes-placed Blowing Kisses (Vindication), who is herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 queen Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet), the recently-retired Grade 1 winner Jimmy Creed (Distorted Humor), and the stakes-winning Funny Feeling (Distorted Humor). All were produced by the Grade 1-winning Hookedonthefeelin (Citidancer). K.K. Eishindo purchased a Rock Hard Ten filly for $220,000. Hip 2350 was offered by Brookdale Sales, agent for Dr. Ted Folkerth and Brookdale. The February 1 Kentucky-bred was produced by Stella Blue (Anabaa), a Group 3 winner in France and the dam of current Group 2-placed multiple stakes winner Sirius Prospect (Gone West). This is the extended family of multiple Group 3 winner Take Risks (Highest Honor). The sale runs through Saturday, and sessions begin daily at 10 a.m. (EDT).
