BELLAMY ROAD (Concerto), the 17 1/2-length winner of the 2005 Wood Memorial
(G1), has been retired and will enter stud next year at Hurricane
Hall near Lexington, Kentucky. The dark bay will be the first stallion for
Hurricane Hall and will stand for a fee of $10,000 as the property of a
syndicate.
Bellamy Road equaled the track record in the Wood Memorial, running nine
furlongs in 1:47 on the main track at Aqueduct. Off that performance, he was
sent postward as the 5-2 favorite in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and finished
seventh. He came out of the 1 1/4-mile classic with an injury and was sidelined
for several weeks. In his only subsequent start, he finished second to Flower
Alley (Distorted Humor) in the Travers S. (G1) and was sent to the sidelines
again with splint and suspensory injuries. An attempted comeback was made this
year, but he never started.
Owned by George Steinbrenner III's Kinsman Stable and trained by Nick Zito,
the four-year-old won four of the seven starts and earned $811,400. In addition
to the Wood Memorial, Bellamy Road won the Cradle S. (G3) at River Downs as a
two-year-old.
Bellamy Road is out of the winning Deputed Testamony mare Hurry Home Hillary,
a half-sister to Sorrento S. (G2) third Fort Lauderdale (Montbrook). He is from
the same female family as Grade 1 winner Gold Fever (Forty Niner) and Grade 3
winner Out of Place (Cox's Ridge), both of whom are sires.
