TRACK BANDIT PREVIEWS
Just six three-year-old turf competitors will line up in the $100,000 Will Rogers S. (G3) at Hollywood Park on Saturday. POLONIUS (Broken Vow) looked so good in taking his last grass start, the Pasadena S., that we must side with him once again to take this test. The bay colt, who is trained by Michael Pender, didn't show much in his Cushion Track debut last out, finishing ninth in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), but he should be ultra-tough on the return to his preferred surface. The speedy Florida-bred will likely be stalking just off the early tempo prior to putting in his charge beneath Jon Court. La Puente S. victor TIZ WEST (Gone West) is perfect on the green for Richard Mandella and is a live candidate to make it three-for-three on the lawn in here. The Kentucky-bred bay rated nicely before firing big in the lane last out, winning more comfortably than the final margin may indicate. The colt may inherit the lead as the inside speed of the field, and a sensible trip under Victor Espinoza might be all that he needs to be right there late. INDIAN SUN (Indian Charlie), who boasts a sharp 4-2-2-0 turf record, has kept excellent company throughout his nine-race career and fits with this group from a class standpoint for Dan Hendricks. The bay sophomore possesses a solid late kick that always gives him a chance at a paycheck, but he might need a pace duel to give him the best chance at the top prize. Richard Migliore, who piloted him to a fourth-place finish in the Arkansas Derby (G2) last out, will be aboard once again. ROBSCARVIC (Ire) (Statue of Liberty) passed seven horses late to capture an allowance race last out and is capable of a minor award in here for Paddy Gallagher. The gelded dark bay will be making his second start off the mini-layoff and will benefit from a healthy tempo. Joel Rosario will be in the irons. The consistent E Z DREAMER (In Excess [Ire]) seems to always fire and is another with a shot at a minor placing in this one. The Dan McFarlane trainee, a closing third in the La Puente two prior, is well drawn on the rail and will have the services of Corey Nakatani in this spot. RED SKY DUBAI (Essence of Dubai) has been forwardly placed in all four career starts for Molly Pearson, and the chestnut colt will likely be into the race from the outset with the added ground in here. The other speed that the colt must face appears to be in a different league from him, meaning this race doesn't set up well for the longshot.
