Ventura, Lady of Venice face off in CashCall Mile

The first time VENTURA (Chester House) and LADY OF VENICE (Fr) (Loup Solitaire) met on the racetrack, Ventura eked out a three-quarter of a length win over her rival, who ran into traffic on the turn, in the Just a Game S. (G1) at Belmont. In Saturday's $750,000 CashCall Mile Invitational S. (G2), the two have traveled west and will face off on Hollywood Park's turf while going a mile against five other rivals who are seeking fame and fortune.

Ventura made her U.S. bow in March, taking her first two races, an allowance and the Madison S. (G2), prior to suffering her first loss stateside when third in the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile S. (G3). She rebounded in the Just a Game last out and will be looking to continue a new win streak in the CashCall Mile under Garrett Gomez.

Prior to the Just a Game, Lady of Venice was a rallying third, only a half-length back, in the ultra-tough Jenny Wiley S. (G2) at Keeneland. She was sent off favored in her last one off that game placing, and holds an advantage over Ventura in that she captured this event 12 months ago by 1 1/4 lengths. The five-year-old chestnut loves the mile distance (8-4-2-1) and will be getting rider switch to Alan Garcia this time around.

Another one entering the CashCall Mile on the upswing is DIAMOND DIVA (GB) (Dansili [GB]). Similar to Ventura in that she captured her initial two U.S. races, the James Cassidy charge was 2 1/4 lengths back in second most recently while stretching out in the nine-furlong Gamely S. (G1). The dark bay miss returns to her preferred mile distance here under David Flores.

The stakes action on Hollywood's Saturday program will kick-off in the 3RD race when a field of 10 two-year-olds enter the gate for the $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship S. (G3) going six furlongs. Four of those entered are still seeking their first career win, including LET'SPICKUPTHEPACE (Pure Precision), third in his two tries so far, and the stakes-placed FASSNACHT (Johannesburg), who just missed his first score by a half-length last out.
