Zenyatta puts perfect mark on the line in Vanity; 12 set for American Oaks Unbeaten ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]) is the top draw in Saturday's $300,000 Vanity H. (G1), which highlights an outstanding program at Hollywood Park that includes the $750,000 American Oaks (G1) and $300,000 Triple Bend H. (G1). Five-for-five overall, the John Shirreffs-trained Zenyatta exits a 2 1/4-length victory in the Milady H. (G2) on May 31 over the Cushion Track. Two starts back, the four-year-old lass left champion Ginger Punch (Awesome Again) in her wake with a scintillating 4 1/2-length romp in the Apple Blossom H. (G1). Zenyatta, who will keep Mike Smith up, will spot weight to her six rivals as the 124-pound highweight in the 1 1/8-mile Vanity. Grade 1 winner TOUGH TIZ'S SIS (Tiznow) and Canadian Horse of the Year SEALY HILL (Point Given) are her main competition. PURE CLAN (Pure Prize), a smart 2 3/4-length winner of the Regret S. (G3) in her last outing, leads the American-based contingent in the grassy American Oaks. Trained by Bob Holthus, the chestnut has traveled west from Kentucky for her first California appearance and brought regular rider Julien Leparoux with her. Pure Clan finished third in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) two starts back and owns a perfect three-for-three mark on turf. Multiple Irish Group 3 winner CARRIBEAN SUNSET (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) heads a group of four international shippers in the 1 1/4-mile Oaks. The Dermot Weld runner exits a third in the Coronation S. (Eng-G1) and was third in the Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1) two back. French stakes victress SATAN'S CIRCUS (Gone West), fifth in the French Oaks (Fr-G1) most recently, is also in the mix. STREET BOSS (Street Cry [Ire]), who ran his winning skein to three and set a new track record when capturing the six-furlong Los Angeles H. (G3) in 1:07 2/5 last time out, is the likely favorite in the seven-furlong Triple Bend. Kentucky shipper ELITE SQUADRON (Officer), winner of the Churchill Downs S. (G2) on the Kentucky Derby Day undercard two starts back, and last-out Ack Ack H. (G3) runner-up TROPIC STORM (Stormy Atlantic) are also part of the seven-horse field.
