Proud Spell surprise entrant in Delaware Oaks In a surprising turn of events, Kentucky Oaks (G1) queen PROUD SPELL (Proud Citizen) was entered in the $500,000 Delaware Oaks (G2), one of three stakes races on Saturday's Delaware Park program. The Larry Jones trainee sustained some cuts during a troubled trip when finishing second, only to be disqualified and placed third, in the June 28 Mother Goose S. (G1) at Belmont Park. Jones, who also entered Bourbonette Oaks (G3) winner MAREN'S MEADOW (Meadowlake) in the 1 1/16-mile event, said there is a good chance that Proud Spell will run in the Delaware Oaks. "She has healed very nicely from her lacerations," Jones said. "We backed off on her training regimen and went light with her." Bonnie Miss S. (G2) heroine SHES ALL ELTISH (Eltish), who was last seen finishing second in the May 16 Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) at Pimlico, invades from Florida for conditioner Marty Wolfson. The bay filly, who has finished out of the top three only once in nine career starts, is a top threat under Eddie Castro. Other contenders include WEATHERED (Key Contender) and AFRICAN VIOLET (Lemon Drop Kid), the first two finishers in the Susan's Girl S. at this track and trip on June 14. Glens Falls H. (G3) victress ROSINKA (Ire) (Soviet Star) will defend her title in the $300,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial S., which was elevated to Grade 3 status this year. Trained by Graham Motion, who has won the Dick Memorial five times, the five-year-old mare comes off her second consecutive victory in the June 7 John W. Rooney Memorial S. Sheepshead Bay H. (G2) runner-up HERBORISTE (GB) (Hernando [Fr]) is among the nine entrants in the 1 3/8-mile grass test, which includes a pair of main-track-only runners. Grade 2 winner ADORE THE GOLD (Formal Gold) and multiple stakes winner CELTIC INNIS (Yarrow Brae) will clash in the $100,000 R.R.M. Carpenter Jr. Memorial H. The 1 1/16-mile race includes four additional entrants.
