Grade 2 winners WESLEY (El Prado [Ire]) and ADRIANO (A.P. Indy) highlight an
11-horse field in Saturday's $500,000
Kent S. (G3)
at Delaware Park. Wesley, who
was switched to the turf two starts back, will seek his third consecutive
victory after taking the National Museum Racing Hall of Fame S. (G2) in his last
start at Saratoga. The Mark Hennig-trained colt got the better of his rival that
day, but Adriano suffered a troubled trip when stuck in traffic through the
stretch run, eventually finishing fourth. Trainer Bill Mott will switch jockeys
and give a leg up to Kent Desormeaux aboard Adriano, and Javier Castellano
retains the mount on Wesley.
Adriano has been established as the 5-2 favorite on the morning line, and
Wesley is the 7-2 second choice in the 1 1/8-mile affair. Winner of the Lane's
End S. (G2) this spring over Polytrack, Adriano didn't fare well when finishing
19th on the dirt in the Kentucky Derby (G1) next time out. He's had success on
the turf, breaking his maiden on the lawn last year and winning an allowance
event in impressive fashion earlier this season at Gulfstream Park.
Hall of Fame third-placer DEAL MAKING (Empire Maker) will also return for the
Kent. The Graham Motion runner opened his racing career with three straight
wins, including the grassy Stanton S. two starts back at Delaware, and closed
fast to miss by only a half-length last time in the Hall of Fame. Ramon
Dominguez will ride.

LUCK MONEY (Ire) (Indian Ridge), who captured his American debut for Todd
Pletcher in the August 1 Majestic Light S. at Saratoga, was beaten less than a
length by Europe's leading miler, Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo), in the Coventry
S. (Eng-G2) last year and later finished fifth behind eventual Epsom Derby
(Eng-G1) winner New Approach (Galileo [Ire]) in the Dewhurst S. (Eng-G1).
Jersey Derby winner MR MACCOOL (Giant's Causeway) and third-placer ROMAN
TIGER (Tiger Ridge) are also in the line-up.
One race earlier on the program, a field of 10 three-year-olds fillies will
square off on the main track in the $100,000
Go for
Wand S. Last-out Monmouth Oaks (G3) victress MAREN'S MEADOW (Meadowlake) and
multiple stakes winner HARTIGAN (Include) are top contenders in the 1 1/16-mile
event.
