Fairbanks to enter stud at Northview in Pennsylvania Grade 2 hero FAIRBANKS (Giant's Causeway) will enter stud in 2009 at Northview Stallion Station's new division near Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania. The five-year-old retires with $879,768 in earnings from his 19-6-4-0 line. Northview has acquired a 50-percent interest in Fairbanks from a partnership that consists of Margaux Farm, Team Valor International and the horse's breeders, James Mamakos and veterinarians Dr. Chuck Kidder and Dr. Johnny Griggs. "We had Fairbanks syndicated to stand in Kentucky, but I truly believe this move to Pennsylvania will work out better," Steve Johnson of Margaux Farm said. "Dr. Tom Bowman, who owns Northview with Richard Golden, has been a friend and associate of mine for more than 30 years," Johnson said. "I trust Tom, I believe in the Pennsylvania program and I have a very good feeling that Northview will lead the way in an area that is just starting to take off. Tom and Richard have developed successful sires in Not for Love, Polish Numbers and Two Punch. We hope they can do the same with Fairbanks. "We all plan to be very much involved, both in selling shares in Fairbanks, supporting him with mares and racing the offspring in Pennsylvania," Johnson added. Fairbanks scored his biggest career victory in the September 27 Hawthorne Gold Cup H. (G2), where he drove to a 2 3/4-length victory. In his prior start, he captured the Duke of Magenta S. at Saratoga by 5 3/4 lengths. Earlier this season, the Todd Pletcher charge finished a close runner-up in the Gulfstream Park H. (G2) and was also second in the Bill Hartack Memorial H. (G3). During his 2007 campaign, Fairbanks romped by 6 3/4 lengths in the Tokyo City Cup H. (G3) at Santa Anita and placed second in both the Suburban H. (G1) and Massachusetts H. He made his final appearance in the October 25 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), finishing 10th after prompting the pace. As a yearling, Fairbanks topped the 2004 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale when attracting a winning bid of $1.85 million from Team Valor. He is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Keats (Hennessy) and Grade 3-placed Grand Score (Grand Slam). They were produced by the Time for a Change mare Alaska Queen, who is a half-sister to Grade 2 victors Darn That Alarm (Jig Time) and Strong Performance (Jig Time). Fairbanks will be syndicated at $30,000 per share, payable in installments, in a unique format that eliminates expenses for the life of the venture. He will stand for a fee of $7,500.
