PAPA CLEM (Smart Strike), runner-up in the Louisiana Derby (G2) and Robert B. Lewis S. (G2) in his last two, covered seven furlongs in 1:28 2/5 over the fast track at Oaklawn on Monday in advance of the April 11 Arkansas Derby (G2).
Grade 1 winner SQUARE EDDIE (Smart Strike), second in the January 17 San Rafael S. (G3) in his only start this year, breezed four furlongs in :50 4/5 over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park. His next start has not been determined.
HELLO BROADWAY (Broken Vow), runner-up in the Hutcheson S. (G2) in his seasonal bow but only seventh in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) last time, drilled five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 over the fast main track at Gulfstream Park. It was the quickest of 13 works at the distance for the Barclay Tagg charge, whose next start has yet to be determined.
DANGER TO SOCIETY (Harlan's Holiday), a candidate for the Arkansas Derby, went six furlongs in 1:13 2/5. The winner of his first two starts, he was a well-beaten seventh in the January 31 Holy Bull S. (G3) in his stakes debut.
JUST A COINCIDENCE (Forestry), who is expected to make his stakes debut in Saturday's Wood Memorial S. (G1), drilled a bullet half-mile in :46 4/5. He's won a maiden and an allowance over a one-turn mile in his last two starts.
MR. HOT STUFF (Tiznow), a full brother to Colonel John who was a distant third in the Sham S. (G3) last time, worked five furlongs in 1:01 2/5 over the Santa Anita Pro-Ride in advance of Saturday's Santa Anita Derby (G1).
On Sunday at Payson Park, Gotham S. (G3) runner-up IMPERIAL COUNCIL (Empire Maker) zipped a half-mile in a bullet :48, tying for the fastest of 24 moves at the distance on the fast track. The Shug McGaughey pupil is headed to the Wood Memorial.
