Hello Broadway could aim for Preakness

Elizabeth J. Valando's homebred HELLO BROADWAY (Broken Vow), who snapped a four-race losing streak in Friday's 3RD race at Keeneland, could set his sights on the May 16 Preakness S. (G1), according to trainer Barclay Tagg.

"I'm not sure, maybe the Preakness," Tagg said. "I'll take a good look at the Preakness and maybe some races in New York. I haven't had a chance to look anything up yet. We'll make some A, B and C plans."

Tagg had considered running Hello Broadway in Saturday's Blue Grass S. (G1), but wanted to build his colt's confidence against softer competition in an allowance. The chestnut responded with a front-running, 1 1/4-length victory, setting fractions of :23 3/5, :47, 1:11 4/5 and 1:37 en route to finishing 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 4/5.

"I didn't want to throw him to the wolves," Tagg explained. "He's had enough tough races. He broke his maiden first time out and has had nothing but tough races since."

Indeed, since his successful Saratoga bow, Hello Broadway has finished fifth in the Champagne S. (G1), second in both the Nashua S. (G3) and the Hutcheson S. (G2) and seventh in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3).

Hello Broadway is a half-brother to millionaire Nobiz Like Shobiz (Albert the Great), hero of the 2007 Wood Memorial S. (G1). Earlier in the week, Tagg compared the two colts.

"They're both big; they're both very good-looking," he said. "I think this (Hello Broadway) is as good a horse as Nobiz; I hope he is. I think this is a very nice horse. I don't know what happens to him in his races, but he trains well and I don't think he's a morning glory.

"I think he's a very special horse. I just don't think he's as mature right at this stage in his three-year-old year as Nobiz was."
