Stellar field set for Ogden Phipps
Seven fillies and mare have been entered in Saturday's $300,000 Ogden Phipps H. (G1) at Belmont Park, and two have already earned Grade 1 credit. SEVENTH STREET (Street Cry [Ire]) and MUSIC NOTE (A.P. Indy), both owned by Godolphin Stable and trained by Saeed bin Suroor, will face off while trying to add another top level win to their record.
Seventh Street will be making her first start for Suroor and Godolphin. The chestnut miss was last seen dominating the Apple Blossom H. (G1) going 1 1/16 miles at Oaklawn Park, recording a 5 3/4-length score under Rajiv Maragh, who retains the mount for the Ogden Phipps. That followed a closing second in the seven-furlong Barbara Fritchie H. (G2), and the chestnut should enjoy staying at the 8 1/2-furlong distance she'll traverse on Saturday.
Music Note brings stronger credentials into the race, but is posting her initial 2009 start in this spot. The bay four-year-old earned scores in the Mother Goose S. (G1) and Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), the latter by 11 lengths, last season. She suffered a tough head loss in the Alabama S. (G1), but rebounded to take the Gazelle S. (G1) on Belmont's main track and closed out her sophomore campaign with a closing third in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1). Regular rider Javier Castellano will be back in the saddle.
SEATTLE SMOOTH (Quiet American) is no stranger to winning and will be going for her fifth straight victory in the Ogden Phipps. The Tony Dutrow-trained four-year-old ended 2008 with an easy score in the Cotillion S. (G2) and has so far this year added the Shuvee H. (G2) and Bed o' Roses H. (G2) to her line. The Shuvee was her first start over Big Sandy, and the bay miss successfully prevailed over runner-up COLOR ME UP (Aptitude) and third SEA CHANTER (War Chant), who will both be looking for revenge on Saturday.
Illiterate S. winner MY DINAH (Victory Gallop) and recent allowance/optional claiming victress NICKSAPPEALINGLADY (Successful Appeal) complete the line up.
