Shared settles Colonial accounts in All Along

Shared Account returned to her winning ways in the All Along (Kurtis Coady/Coady Photography)

Denied by the head of Blind Date (Not for Love) in her last visit to Colonial Downs for the 2009 Virginia Oaks (G3), Sagamore Farm's SHARED ACCOUNT (Pleasantly Perfect) beat back that rival and six others to claim Saturday's $145,750 All Along S. (G3). No more than 2 1/2 lengths behind of the lead at any call, the 2-1 favorite wore down long-time pacesetter Tizaqueena (Tizmow) in the stretch to win by a length under Edgar Prado, completing nine furlongs in the firm turf in 1:49. Shared Aacount returned $6, $3 and $2.10.

Tizaqueena, the 5-2 second choice, had no excuse while setting a modest pace. Up 1 1/2 lengths through splits of :24 2/5 and :49 3/5, she saw her lead diminish to a half-length as Casablanca Smile (Chi) (Ocean Terrace) applied pressure from her stalking position in second. Meanwhile, Shared Account bided her time in behind that pair waiting for the right time to strike.

That moment came in the stretch as the leading pair continued to duke it out, and Shared Account came on like a fresh horse. Making her second start of the season, Shared Account was just that and proved best while 3-1 third choice Dynaslew (Dynaformer) came late to edge by a nose Tizaqueena and Casablanca Smile, who finished on even terms. That pair finished ahead of Omega Cat (Omega Code), Blind Date and Kitty Cat Express (Cat Thief).

Dynaslew gave back $3.80 and $2.20, while Tizaqueena and the 3-1 Casablanca Smile each returned $2.10. The exacta paid $23.80, the trifecta with Tizaqueena $31, and the trifecta with Casablanca Smile $49. The superfecta with Tizaqueena in third (5-1-4-8) paid $88.20 while the one with Casablanca Smile in the show slot (5-1-8-4) gave back $100.20.

A winner of her first two starts on dirt, Shared Account failed to show much when tested against graded quality stock on that surface at three. However, the bay has never failed to pick up a check since switching to the turf nearly a year ago. Third in the Perfect Sting S. and second in the Virginia Oaks in her first two grass attempts, she next took the Lake Placid S. (G2) at Saratoga by a length. Her sophomore season concluded with two second-place efforts in the Garden City S. (G1) and Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1). Shared Account kicked off her four-year-old campaign in the May 15 Gallorette H. (G3), and while only fourth in that contest, she missed winning by three parts of a length to European champion Rainbow View (Dynaformer). Her record now stands at 12-5-3-1, $446,560.

Bred in Kentucky by William Carl, Shared Account was a $170,000 Keeneland September purchase. Produced by the winning Silk N' Sapphire (Smart Strike), Shared Account is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Mark of Success (Mt. Livermore), an unnamed yearling filly by Pleasant Tap and a 2010 filly by Bernardini. Silk N' Sapphire is herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Sapphire N' Silk (Pleasant Tap), the dam of Grade 2 winner Shaniko (A.P. Indy) and multiple stakes winner Silky Smooth (Mr. Greeley). Grade 2 winners Smooth Air (Smooth Jazz), Justwhistledixie (Dixie Union), Pok Ta Pok (Full Pocket) and Penny's Reshoot (Turkey Shoot) also hail from this family.

Further back, this female line produced Broodmare of the Year Shenanigans (Native Dancer), the dam of legendary Hall of Fame filly Ruffian (Reviewer) as well as Grade 2 winners and sires Icecapade (Nearctic) and Buckfinder (Buckpasser). Shenanigans is also the ancestress of Grade 1 winners Coronado's Quest (Forty Niner) and Private Terms (Private Account).
