Kinsale King headed to July Cup Trainer Carl O'Callaghan has confirmed that KINSALE KING (Yankee Victor) will remain in England for a probable tilt at the £400,000 July Cup (Eng-G1), the third British leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, at Newmarket on July 9. The U.S.-based Irishman saddled Kinsale King for his first race on turf in the June 19 Golden Jubilee S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot. The dark bay five-year-old finished third behind Starspangledbanner (Choisir) in that six-furlong event, which was the second British leg of the Global Sprint Challenge. O'Callaghan is now hoping that the stiff six furlongs of the July Course will suit Kinsale King. The gelding, temporarily stabled at Abingdon Place on the Bury Road in Newmarket, has come out of his last assignment in fine fettle and O'Callaghan is ready to let his charge have a shot at turning the tables on his Royal Ascot conqueror. "For us, coming third at Ascot was like winning," O'Callaghan said. "My horse showed up on the day and that's all I can ask. "I think next time we'll see a better performance. I am a bit concerned running him back so quick but he has bounced out of the race and is in great shape. He has been playing in the paddock and having a grand time. "I wouldn't stay if I didn't think he had a chance of winning. After Ascot we did all the scopes and X-rays you can do and they were spotless. "This time we won't let Starspangledbanner go. I want to sit closer to him perhaps only a length behind as my horse can kick but also keep going." Kinsale King provided O'Callaghan with his biggest win to date in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) at Meydan on March 27. He opened the year with a score in the Palos Verdes H. (G2) at Santa Anita, continuing a win streak from 2009 that included a victory in Hollywood Park's Vernon O. Underwood S. (G3). The July Festival at Newmarket offers three days of outstanding racing action on the beautiful July Course, including the £185,000 Falmouth S. (Eng-G1) on July 7 and the July Cup.
