Informed Decision wins two-turn test at Presque Isle

Prepping for the seven-furlong Ballerina S. (G1) on August 28, champion female sprinter INFORMED DECISION (Monarchos) stretched out to two turns for the first time and led wire to wire in Tuesday's $97,500 Windward S. at Presque Isle Downs, winning the one-mile event by 1 1/2 lengths. Regular jockey Julien Leparoux was in for the mount aboard the five-year-old mare, who stopped the teletimer over the Tapeta track in 1:38 2/5.

A six-time stakes winner last season with victories in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1), Humana Distaff (G1) and Madison S. (G1), the Jonathon Sheppard-trained gray opened her 2010 campaign with a pair of thirds in the Madison and Humana Distaff. She rebounded from those setbacks with a hard-fought head score in the Chicago H. (G3) on July 4, but was never seriously threatened on Tuesday night, recording splits of :25 2/5, :49 4/5 and 1:14 1/5 on a short lead before accelerating away from her nearest challenger in midstretch.

With the $60,000 winner's share, the Augustin Stable colorbearer has now earned $1,952,759 from her 18-13-0-4 career line. The Kentucky-bred won six-of-seven starts in 2009, the lone defeat coming as a third in the Ballerina. She'll have the opportunity to make amends for that loss next time.
