Haskell Day at Monmouth Park on Sunday will feature a total
of seven stakes, with the undercard highlighted by the
Oceanport S. (G3) and Matchmaker S. (G3). However, the four
listed events have all drawn graded quality fields.
The $150,000
Majestic Light S. for older horses on the main track
features Grade 2 winners ARSON SQUAD (Brahms) and COOL COAL
MAN (Mineshaft). Arson Squad, who rolled to good-looking
scores in the Skip Away S. (G3) at Gulfstream and Alysheba
S. (G3) at Churchill in April, comes off a sixth in the
Stephen Foster H. (G1). Cool Coal Man, sixth to Arson Squad
as the 3-1 favorite in the Alysheba, rebounded with a
victory in Monmouth's version of the Skip Away S. at this
same 1 1/16-mile distance. ELDAAFER (A.P. Indy), the winner
of last year's Brooklyn H. (G2), was fifth in the Suburban
H. (G2) in his latest. |
The $150,000
Teddy Drone S., a six-furlong dash, is led by Aristides S. (G3) scorer RILEY TUCKER
(Harlan's Holiday) and the respective top two from the
course-and-distance Mr. Prospector S., ROARING LION (Lion Hearted)
and WILDCAT BRIEF (Forest Wildcat). Fall Highweight H. (G3) victor
CHEROKEE COUNTRY (Yonaguska), a closing fifth in the Mr. Prospector,
is eligible to move forward here in his third try off a layoff. Multiple Grade 2 hero
CHARITABLE MAN (Lemon Drop Kid), last seen finishing fourth in the
2009 Travers S. (G1), was also entered, but the lightly-raced dark
bay is expected to make his debut for Tony Dutrow in Monday's 8TH
race at Delaware Park.

The companion race for fillies and mares, the $150,000
Regret S., is the comeback spot for Grade 1 queen
MISTICAL PLAN (Game Plan). Successful in the 2008 Princess
Rooney H. (G1), the six-year-old has not raced since tiring
to last in the Santa Maria H. (G1) in February of 2009. The
Doug O'Neill trainee had been working well on the dirt at
San Luis Rey Downs before shifting her tack to Philadelphia
Park. Among her chief rivals are FIRST PASSAGE (Giant's
Causeway), seventh in the recent renewal of the Princess
Rooney; LADY ALEXANDER (Exchange Rate), the winner of the
Red Cross S, at this track and trip and fourth in the Bed o'
Roses H. (G3) last out; defending Regret champion D'WILD
RIDE (D'wildcat); Woodbine shipper CAREM CRESCENT (Distorted
Humor); and RATED FIESTY (Exchange Rate).

FANTASTICO ROBERTO (Ire) (Refuse to Bend [Ire]), who went
wire-to-wire in the Choice S. last out, will attempt to
repeat the feat in the $150,000
Jersey Derby going 1 1/16 miles on the grass. Jersey
Derby runner-up THEY CALL ME GIANT (Giant's Causeway) will
renew rivalry, as will fifth-placer THUNDER BREW (Milwaukee
Brew), who had defeated Fantastico Roberto in the
Lamplighter S. in their prior meeting. The speedy course
specialist TWO NOTCH ROAD (Partner's Hero) gets class relief
after finishing third in the Colonial Turf Cup (G2) and
fourth in the Virginia Derby (G2), while Group 3-placed
AUDACITY OF HOPE (GB) (Red Ransom) invades from England for
Jeremy Noseda.
