Lucky lookin at the Indiana Derby

Trainer Bob Baffert intends to point champion and classic winner LOOKIN AT LUCKY (Smart Strike) toward the October 2 Indiana Derby (G2) at Hoosier Park provided the three-year-old turns in a satisfactory work next week, the Blood-Horse reported Friday morning.

Last year's juvenile colt champion, Lookin at Lucky has risen to the top of the divisional ranks at three with victories in the Preakness S. (G1), Haskell Invitational (G1) and Rebel S. (G2). After an impressive score in the August 1 Haskell Invitational, Lookin at Lucky took ill and missed valuable training time. The September 25 Pennsylvania Derby (G2) had been under consideration, but a later prep for the November 6 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) has proven necessary as the sophomore continues to recover from this recent setback.

"He looks really well now and is back on track," Baffert said. "That should set him up for the (Breeders' Cup) Classic."
