Stormy's Majesty rebounds again to take Discovery

Majesty Stud's homebred STORMY'S MAJESTY (Stormy Atlantic) kept the $100,000 Discovery H. (G3) at Aqueduct the ward of New York-breds for a third straight year with a decisive two-length triumph in the nine-furlong test on Saturday. Following in the hoofsteps of fellow state-breds Haynesfield (Speightstown) and Wishful Tomcat (Tactical Cat), the Dominic Galluscio trainee was prominent throughout under Edgar Prado and finished up the fast-track test in 1:50. He returned $9.10, $4.90 and $3.70 as the 7-2 second choice.

Stormy's Majesty broke alertly from post 2 and traveled with 5-2 choice Golden Moka (Golden Missile) on the front end. Up a half-length on that rival through a quarter in :23 3/5, Stormy's Majesty conceded a slight lead down the backside as Golden Moka was a head in front through a half in :47 4/5. However, Stormy's Majesty quickly dispensed with that rival around the far turn, forging ahead to a one-length advantage after six panels in 1:12. Meanwhile, 7-1 chance Not Abroad (Not for Love) made a bold, wide move to reach contention approaching the quarter pole, and appeared to be the only one with a chance to upset the leader.

In the stretch, however, Stormy's Majesty proved to have plenty of gas left in the tank. Drawing off under urging by Prado, he went up 2 1/2 lengths with a furlong to go as Not Abroad failed to show acceleration. That Delaware-based invader finished second for the ninth time in 15 career starts, easily holding that position by 1 1/4 lengths over early trailer Teaks North (Northern Afleet).

Not Abroad paid $6.40 and $3.50, while Teaks North returned $4.10 at 5-1. The exacta paid $45.20, the trifecta $254, and the 2-5-3-4 superfecta with 7-1 chance Overcommunication (Unbridled's Song) gave back $1,357. Golden Moka came home fifth and was followed by Al Muhtasib (Distorted Humor) and Dominant Jeannes (Pleasantly Perfect).

Stormy's Majesty kicked off his career with three straight wins, in a maiden and two allowances, against New York-breds. Hiked in class for his next start in the Jim Dandy S. (G2), the colt weakened to trail the field of eight. He rebounded to take the Albany S. for state-breds by a neck then finished second in the Star of Cozzene S. against open company. He threw in another clunker last out in the Empire Classic, fading to last in a field of 10. Having shook off the effects of that performance with a victory here, the chestnut improved his career mark to 8-5-1-0, $213,732.

"Edgar and I decided to let him run a little bit," Galluscio revealed. "In the Empire Classic he got behind and didn't seem to catch his stride or breathe as well. I was surprised he was on the lead because it looked like there were horses with more speed, but I was very comfortable when they showed the fractions and saw the way Edgar was sitting."

Stormy's Majesty is the first foal from the stakes-placed Raffie's Dream (Raffie's Majesty), who is also the dam of an unnamed yearling colt by Hook and Ladder. Raffie's Dream and her stakes-winning full brother Mt. Majesty were produced by the multiple stakes winner Winmor Miss (Royal Ski). Descendants of this female line include Grade 1 winners Mitterand (Hold Your Peace) and Another Reef (Plum Bold) as well as Grade 2-winning sire French Deputy (Deputy Minister).
