Redeemed, Boys at Tosconova retired
Samantha Siegel, who operates Jay Em Ess Stable, has retired her four-year-old stars Redeemed and Boys at Tosconova, both of whom were trained by Rick Dutrow.
Siegel told Daily Racing Form on Wednesday that Redeemed, who had been a leading candidate for the Grade 2 Breeders' Cup Marathon in November, had suffered a torn tendon in his right foreleg. Boys at Tosconova, meanwhile, will head to stud after training unsatisfactorily toward another comeback.
Redeemed, a son of Include, retires with a mark of 13-8-2-2, $832,140. He captured the Grade 3 Discovery Handicap and Oklahoma Derby last season, and this year had compiled wins in the Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap and Grade 3 Goodwood Cup, both at 1 1/2 miles.
Boys at Tosconova, a son of Officer, peaked at two winning the Grade 1 Hopeful. He later finished second in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs behind champion Uncle Mo. Boys at Tosconova made his final stakes appearance in the Grade 3 Westchester on April 28, finishing a distant second behind To Honor and Serve. Boys at Tosconova retires with a mark of 9-5-3-1, $688,960.
Stallion plans for both colts have not been finalized.
