Diesis euthanized at age 26

English champion DIESIS (GB) (Sharpen Up) was euthanized on Saturday at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington, Kentucky, after fracturing a hip. The 26-year-old stallion was pensioned earlier this year because of hock problems after covering six mares.

Diesis is best known for his European runners, which include champions Halling, Magistretti, Ramruma. Elmaamul, Diminuendo, Three Valleys and Docksider. In addition, he is represented by North American Grade 1 winners Husband, Storm Trooper, Continuously and Rootentootenwooten.

Diesis is the sire of at least 77 black-type winners. His progeny have earned more than $40 million.

As a two-year-old, he won the Dewhurst S. (Eng-G1) and Middle Park S. (Eng-G1) and was named champion two-year-old in England in 1982. He won three of six career starts before entering stud in 1984.

Diesis is out of the Reliance mare Doubly Sure (GB) and is a full brother to champion and top European sire Kris.
