Nafzger mulls launching pad for Street Sense

Trainer Carl Nafzger is pleased with last year's champion juvenile male STREET SENSE (Street Cry [Ire]), who drilled five furlongs in 1:00 4/5 at Palm Meadows on Sunday, as he continues to ponder several possible starting points on the road to the Triple Crown. Last seen powering to a 10-length victory in the November 4 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), the dark bay colt was posting his fifth official work in advance of his sophomore debut.

"He came back good," Nafzger said later Sunday afternoon. "So far he looks like everything went well. He finished strong. I don't know what they got for his final three-eighths, but he looked strong doing it. He hit it right.

"The track probably wasn't particularly fast this morning," he continued. "But don't get me wrong -- it was an excellent track. It was an absolutely wonderful track. It may turn out that it was deep enough that he gets even more out of the work than we expected."

As far as choosing a spot for Street Sense's three-year-old bow, Nafzger pointed out that every weekend in March offers many stakes options. One possibility on the radar screen is the $150,000 Hutcheson S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park on March 3.

"I don't think we'll know in a couple days (where his first race will be)," Nafzger said. "I might not know for two weeks."
