Sedgefield returns to worktab Lane's End S. (G2) runner-up SEDGEFIELD (Smart Strike) negotiated four furlongs in :49 over the fast dirt at Churchill Downs on Saturday. The move was the first for the Darrin Miller-trained sophomore since finishing fifth at 58-1 in the Kentucky Derby (G1) two weeks ago. "He went well," a pleased Miller said. "It was kind of a 'getting back in the game' type of work, but it was good." Sedgefield tracked the pacesetting Hard Spun (Danzig) during the early running of the Derby, before being passed late by the hard-closing Curlin (Smart Strike), Imawildandcrazyguy (Wild Event) and, of course, winner Street Sense (Street Cry [Ire]). The chestnut colt was Julien Leparoux's first Derby mount, and the Eclipse Award-winning rider was aboard for Saturday's work. "We're taking a wait-and-see approach," Miller explained. "There are a couple of options laying in front of him, be it turf or dirt. I just haven't quite made up my mind." Sedgefield's stablemate Dominican (El Corredor), who captured the Blue Grass S. (G1) before finishing 11th in the Kentucky Derby, is getting a break. "He's getting a little bit of turn-out time," Miller added. "He's doing good."
