Gelding roars home in Oceanport SILENT ROAR (Unbridled's Song) closed stoutly down the center of the stretch late to capture the $150,000 Oceanport S. (G3) by one length at Monmouth Park on Sunday. Tracking in sixth as Smart Enough (Horse Chestnut [SAf]) led the field through splits of :23 2/5 and :46 3/5 for the opening half-mile, the gelded four-year-old began to hit his best stride approaching the final furlong and was accelerating best of anyone late, finishing 1 1/16 miles in a new course record of 1:38 4/5 under Stewart Elliot. The 5-1 fourth choice paid $12.20, $6 and $3.20. Kiss the Kid (Lemon Drop Kid) tracked in third for much of the race, earned a momentary lead inside the final furlong, and finished well to retain the place by a neck. Sent off as the second-longest price at 26-1, the runner-up returned $19.20 and $7 while completing the $178 exacta. Kip Deville (Kipling) saved ground to the stretch but couldn't reel in the top pair, settling for third as the 6-5 favorite. Show paid $2.80 and the trifecta was worth $607.60. Icy Atlantic (Stormy Atlantic) rallied belatedly to complete the $3,395.40 superfecta (1-3-4-8) as the near 7-2 second choice. Giant Wrecker (Giant's Causeway) took a short lead at the six-furlong mark but faded to fifth, followed by Victory Alleged (Victory Gallop), Presious Passion (Royal Anthem) and Smart Enough. Owned and trained by Michael Moran, Silent Roar earned his second stakes win in the Garden State, having previously scored in the Paterson S. at the Meadowlands in October. The gray placed third in both the Caesar Rodney S. and Battlefield S. in his last pair, and sports a career line of 10-5-1-3, $225,845. The winner was bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds Ltd. and attracted a bid of $300,000 at the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is the first stakes winner out of Jane's the Name (Trempolino), herself a half-sister to a trio of stakes winners, including Grade 1 hero Joyeux Danseur (Nureyev). This is the same female family as such standouts as 1991 champion two-year-old colt Arazi (Blushing Groom [Fr]), 2001 Sussex S. (Eng-G1) victor Noverre (Rahy), 1971 Kentucky Derby and Belmont S. runner-up Jim French (Graustark), and this year's Sham S. (G3) winner Ravel (Fusaichi Pegasus). Silent Roar has an unnamed yearling half-brother by Grand Slam.
