Recommendation
You should have ALL-Ways Version 14.0 or later software installed on your computer BEFORE downloading the ALL-Ways Batch Download files.
Instructions if you DO NOT already have an ALL-Ways Race Database for the track
Step 1: Download the Batch Download file for the track from the BRIS web site.
Save the file in your Frandata folder. This folder was created when you installed ALL-Ways. During the download process, you will be shown where the downloaded file will be saved. At that time, if necessary, you can change the "save in" destination to the Frandata folder.
Step 2: Unzip the Batch Download file using the ALL-Ways Toolbox Module
Step 3: Automatically process the ALL-Ways data files in the ALL-Ways Database Module
Step 4: Automatically process the Exotic Results data files in the ALL-Ways Database Module
Note: The results may not be entered for a very small number of races due to "dead heats" or two "coupled entry" horses finishing in the top 3 finish positions or abnormally small fields.
Obtaining the comprehensive ALL-Ways User Manual
ALL-Ways software and the comprehensive ALL-Ways User Manual are available two different ways:
By Mail: You can order the software and manual by calling BRIS at 1 800 354 9206. For a small shipping and handling charge, BRIS will mail the software to you along with the manual completely printed and contained in a handy 3-ring binder.
On-Line: You can download the software and the user manual from the ALL-Ways Free Software Page on the BRIS Web site. Note: If you left mouse click on the link to the manual, the manual will open up on-line in PDF format. If you right mouse click on the link to the manual and then select the "save target as" option, the full manual will download to your computer.
Recommendation: We recommend ordering the ALL-Ways User Manual by mail. You can then use the on-line version temporarily until the mailed manual arrives. The User Manual is very comprehensive. It is not intended to be read cover-to-cover. Instead, it is designed as a reference for you to turn to when you have questions.
If you are new to ALL-Ways, we suggest you read Chapter 1 in the manual and then follow the instructions in Chapter 2. The instructions in Chapter 2 will direct you to other parts of the manual if more detailed information is needed.
Further instructions if you DO already have an ALL-Ways Race Database for the track
Note: If you do not already have an ALL-Ways Race Database for the track, you can ignore this topic.
There are some special considerations if you already have an ALL-Ways Race Database for the Batch Download track. More specifically, the simple instructions below show how to avoid duplicate races and how to "purify" the database.
Avoiding Duplicate Races: There are two approaches to avoid ending up with duplicate races in your Race Database for the track:
Approach #1: After downloading and unzipping the Batch Download file, but before processing it in the Database Module, you can delete the ALL-Ways data file and Exotic Results data file set(s) in the Frandata folder for race date(s) already in your database.
Approach #2: After processing the Batch Download race cards in the Database Module, you can use the ALL-Ways Toolbox Module to delete duplicate races in your database.
Note: Having a few duplicate races in your Race Database for a track is not a big problem. It simply means that the duplicate races will have a bit more influence on the functions in the Analysis Module. In large databases, such as those provided by the Batch Download files, the influence has minimal impact.
About ALL-Ways "forward looking" Wager Races Database
All instructions to this point have been about your Race Database for a track, the primary database in ALL-Ways that is used for all handicapping and for all Analysis Module functions. There are no other instructions for Race Databases. ALL-Ways also maintains a separate database, called the Wager Races Database, that is used for all functions in the Wager Races Module, including using the built in "Electronic Teller" and running the many "forward looking" analyses in the Wager Races Analysis Module.
For races to show up in the Wager Races Analysis Module, you must do three
things: Specifically, you must: Step 1) Process the ALL-Ways data
file in the Database Module; Step 2) Handicap the races in the
Handicapping Module and; Step 3) Process the Exotic Results data
file in the Database Module. By following the directions above,
you have already done Steps 1 and 3, but you have not done Step
2, which is to handicap each race. So, if you want to run a
"forward looking" analysis in the Wager Races Module, we
suggest you handicap each of the races using the MRA Default
and/or the MRA Pace Handicapping Profiles. And, you can really
speed up this task if you use the Custom Module to create a
Handicapping Session Template. By using the Handicapping
Session Template in the Handicapping Module with the On-Screen
Reports turned on, you can handicap a large number of races in a
matter of minutes. See Chapter 7 and Chapter 9 in the ALL-Ways
User Manual for more information about the Wager Races Module and
about creating a Handicapping Session Template, respectively.
