Longshot Runhappy sets new stakes record in King's Bishop

Last updated: 8/29/15 4:44 PM

James McIngvale's Runhappy (Super Saver) led nearly every step of the way in

Saturday's $500,000

King's Bishop S. (G1) at Saratoga, and ended up setting a new stakes record

while just missing the track record under jockey Edgar Prado.

The Maria Borell-trained bay entered the King's Bishop off a pair of easy

allowance/optional claiming wins at Ellis Park and Indiana Grand. Despite that,

the sophomore was sent off at 11-1 but ended up running like a favorite when

setting quick fractions of :22.43, :44.54 and 1:08.17.

No one could catch Runhappy as he finished seven furlongs over the Spa's fast

main track in 1:20.54, just missing the track record of 1:20.40 set by Darby

Creek Road on August 8, 1978.
