Breeders’ Cup announces distance changes for two championship races

The 34th annual Breeders' Cup will take place at Del Mar on November 3-4, 2017
On Thursday, the Breeders’ Cup revealed the official distances for all 13 races making up the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The annual event is scheduled to take place on November 3-4 at Del Mar near San Diego for the first time in its 34-year history.
The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) will be run at different distances this year due to the location. The Turf Sprint took place at 6 1/2 furlongs last year but will be run at five furlongs on November 4. The Filly & Mare Turf, normally run at 1 1/4 miles, will take place at 1 1/8 miles, also on November 4.
