| Race Summary |
|---|
ENGLISH CHANNEL tracked the pace from early on under a rating hold four wide,
was patiently ridden, reached the front nearing the sixteenth pole, then was
fully extended to turn back CACIQUE (IRE) at the end. CACIQUE (IRE), in tight
after the start, raced within easy striking distance near the inside, briefly
lacked room entering the lane, worked his way out five wide and was going well
at the end. MILK IT MICK (GB), steadied in tight after the start, settled inside
early, eased out three or four wide on the backstretch, edged up entering the
stretch, was immediately behind the winner for the drive, then lacked room
through the final fifty yards and was repeatedly steadied. EINSTEIN (BRZ)
followed front-running COOL CONDUCTOR three or four wide, battled forwardly into
the final furlong and lacked a late response. GORELLA (FR), sluggish to begin,
worked her way near the inside, continued inside when advancing around the far
turn into the stretch, was behind a wall of horses in the late going and failed
to secure running room until too late. COOL CONDUCTOR drifted out at the start
forcing PERFECT DRIFT out in tight quarters bothering CACIQUE (IRE) and MILK IT
MICK (GB), moved to the fore soon after near the inside, opened a clear
advantage while accomplishing a modest opening quarter, showed the way under
careful handling into the final furlong and weakened. GOOD REWARD, never far
back and five or six wide most of the way, was empty when the test came. HONOR
IN WAR drifted in at the start bumping SILVER TREE and failed to menace. SILVER
TREE, bumped at the start by HONOR IN WAR, worked his way inside on the far
turn, raced in contention for seven furlongs and weakened. PERFECT DRIFT, forced
out a bit at the start and placed in close quarters when COOL CONDUCTOR drifted
out, settled three wide, swung out ten wide for the stretch run but couldn't
muster a closing account.
