Trick's Pic pulls away in Tuzla

Trick's Pic earned her first stakes win in the Tuzla (Benoit Photo)

Joseph Lacombe's homebred TRICK'S PIC (Favorite Trick) commenced her run approaching the final turn and spurted away in the stretch to take down the $110,300 Tuzla H. (G3) over the firm Santa Anita turf on Saturday. Saddled for the first time by Doug O' Neill, the dark bay settled well off the swift early pace established by a trio of fillies, moved into contention nearing the last turn and flew home to score going off by two lengths under Victor Espinoza. The mare clocked the one-mile grassy affair in 1:35 and rewarded backers with mutuels of $14.40, $7.40 and $5 at 6-1.

I Can See (Flying Chevron) was last early but finished full of run to garner the place spot at 21-1, paying $18.80 and $8.80 while completing the $103.60 exacta ($1) in the process. Good Mood (Ire) (Danehill Dancer), the lukewarm 5-2 favorite, rallied from well off the pace but could not match strides with the top pair while finishing third. Show paid $3.60 and the trifecta was worth $514.10 ($1). The $1 superfecta returned $3,639.60 with Shermeen (Ire) (Desert Style) rounding out the top four at 16-1. Audacious Chloe (More Than Ready) was next and trailed by pacesetter Unspoken Word (Catienus), Political Web (Petionville) and Live Life (Fr) (Linamix), while Private Banking (Fr) (Anabaa) was withdrawn.

Trick's Pic earned her initial black-type score in this one to improve her career line to 20-5-2-3, $260,288. The five-year-old placed in a trio of stakes in 2007, comprising the Matchmaker S. (G3), Gallorette H. (G3) and Swingtime S.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State and is out of the winning Nice Pic (Piccolino), who is also responsible for an unnamed yearling filly by Wildcat Heir.
