Sir Greeley rides rail to Toboggan win

SIR GREELEY (Mr. Greeley) made his season debut a winning one rallying up the inside to overtake the pacesetting Man of Danger (Tiger Ridge) in Saturday's $106,200 Toboggan H. (G3) over a sloppy track at Aqueduct. The James Jerkens trainee was ridden to victory by Eibar Coa, and covered six furlongs in 1:10 1/5. Man of Danger set early splits of :22 1/5 and :44 2/5, but could not hold off Sir Greeley, who caught the leader inside the final furlong to prevail by three-quarters of a length. Ravalo (Mutakddim) finished 1 3/4 lengths behind in third and was followed by Bold Start (Jump Start) and Santana Strings (Wheaton). The Toboggan field was reduced to five with the scratch of Gravesend H. (G3) winner City Attraction (Vicar). Sir Greeley, the 2-1 favorite, paid $6, $3.50 and $2.50. The exacta paid $16.80, while the trifecta (2-5-6) paid $41.80.

The Toboggan was Sir Greeley's first win over an off track after finishing second in three previous attempts on sloppy surfaces. The Toboggan was also the second graded stakes score for Sir Greeley, who had previously won the 2006 Westchester H. (G3) at Belmont. He also captured the 2005 Fly So Free S. and has placed in seven stakes, including a runner-up finish in the 2006 Carter H. (G1). The six-year-old gelding was bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III & Brilliant Stables, and is owned by Mrs. Thomas J. Walsh and Timber Bay Farm. The $64,920 winner's share of the Toboggan boosted Sir Greeley's career earnings to $594,251 and improved his career mark to 27-9-8-0.

Sir Greeley remains the only winner from two starters out of his dam, Worry Not (Concern), a winner in one of her six starts.
