Bustin Stones digs in to take Carter

Roddy Valente's homebred BUSTIN STONES (City Zip) held off a stubborn Executive Fleet (Northern Afleet) and a fast-finishing Premium Wine (Prime Timber) to run his unbeaten streak to six with a score in the $300,000 Carter H. (G1) at Aqueduct on Saturday. The Bruce Levine trainee, who has never been headed at any call in his career, was hounded all the way when posting splits of :22 2/5 and :45 before attaining separation approaching the final turn. The chestnut colt appeared gone in midstretch but could not shake Executive Fleet, gamely holding on by a half-length at the finish. Edgar Prado rode the winner, who went seven-eighths on the fast main oval in 1:22 4/5 and paid $7.50, $4.70 and $3.80 as the 5-2 second choice.

Executive Fleet handled the jump from allowance to graded stakes in excellent fashion at 13-1. The runner-up, who held the place spot by a neck, paid $9.60 and $6.30 while completing the $58 exacta. Premium Wine was well back early but commenced his run at the top of the lane and flew home near the inside to gain third. Show was worth $5.70, and the trifecta gave back $522 with the 14-1 shot. The superfecta (9-10-8-1) was worth $2,132 with 7-1 Lord Snowdon (Seeking the Gold) closing from last. Not for Money (Not For Love) was next and was followed by King of the Roxy (Little Expectations), Ryan's For Real (Sword Dance [Ire]), 6-5 choice Spring at Last (Silver Deputy) and City Attraction (Vicar). Stormin Normandy (Stormin Fever) was scratched.

Bustin Stones began his career a little over a year ago with a seven-length romp versus New York-bred company, and followed that triumph with facile wins in the Times Square S. and Screenland S. to conclude his sophomore season. After taking Thepromonroe S. in his seasonal debut, the four-year-old gamely wired the field in the General George H. (G2) at Laurel. He has now banked $480,150.

Bred in the Empire State, Bustin Stones is out of the winning Shesasurething (Prospectors Gamble).

Levine said that the $600,000 Metropolitan H. (G1) on May 26 will be the likely next start for Bustin Stones.
