Ventura takes Madison

Juddmonte Farms' homebred VENTURA (Chester House) raced near the back of Wednesday's $200,000 Madison S. (G2) for the first half-mile, began her rally seven wide into the stretch and got up to record the length victory under Garrett Gomez. The Bobby Frankel-trained four-year-old was sent off as the 4-1 second choice and paid out $10, $7.80 and $5.40 to her backers for finishing the seven-furlong test over Keeneland's Polytrack in 1:22.

Longshot Street Sounds (Street Cry [Ire]) was never far off the pace during the early running and finished two lengths clear of Dawn After Dawn (Successful Appeal) in third. She returned $19.60 and $10.40 at 27-1 while completing the $143.20 exacta. Dawn After Dawn took a brief lead in the stretch, but couldn't hold off the top two, settling for the show spot at 9-1. Show was worth $6, and the trifecta paid $1,790.40.

Wild Gams (Forest Wildcat), off at 5-1, completed the $10,220.40 superfecta (7-5-8-2). Next under the line were Change Up (Distorted Humor), Carriage Trail (Giant's Causeway), Windyindy (A.P. Indy), Mini Sermon (Pulpit), Zada Belle (Indian Charlie), Looky Yonder (Johannesburg) and V. I. P. Princess (Thunder Gulch).

The Kentucky-bred Ventura began her career in England and took two tries to break her maiden. In late November, she captured the Hyde S. in her three-year-old finale and reappeared this season in the United States, taking her stateside debut, an allowance on Santa Anita's turf, by two lengths. Now with three straight wins, the dark bay miss boasts a 10-5-3-0 mark having banked $224,838 in lifetime earnings.

Ventura is out of the multiple listed-placed Estala (GB) (Be My Guest), making her a half-sister to an unraced sophomore filly named Call Later (Gone West) and an unraced juvenile colt named Oba King (Mizzen Mast). The Madison winner's great granddam is Cairn Rouge (Ire) (Pitcairn), winner of the 1980 Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1) and Champion S. (Eng-G1).
