Street still the Boss after Bing Crosby Simon Yu, Marsha Naify and trainer Bruce Headley's STREET BOSS (Street Cry [Ire]) entered Sunday's $300,000 Bing Crosby H. (G1) at Del Mar as the king of California sprinters, and remained firmly enthroned at its conclusion with a scintillating last-to-first rally under David Flores, who guided the four-year-old to a one-length victory in a time of 1:08 3/5 going six furlongs over Polytrack. The 2-1 favorite in a field of nine, Street Boss returned $6.40, $3.60 and $3 while keying $1 exotics of $11.50 (exacta), $97.20 (trifecta) and $829.10 (1-4-3-7 superfecta). While a mad scramble ensued among four rivals for early supremacy, Street Boss was content to rate at an unhurried pace at the tail of the field. Barbecue Eddie (Stormy Atlantic) held a head advantage through an opening quarter in :22 1/5 and a half in :44 3/5 while being under constant pressure from Winsome Charm (Silver Charm) and Sailors Sunset (Petionville), with Johnny Eves (Skimming) not far behind while racing widest of all. Street Boss commenced his bid rounding the far turn, then made what was officially a seven-wide move turning for home, though it wasn't much of an exaggeration to believe he was halfway between the inner and outer rails. Street Boss continued his effective charge down the lane, moving best of all to assume control inside the final furlong. "I've never ridden one that finishes like that. Not on the main track," Flores said. "He's something. He's not a Cadillac; he's a Ferrari." In Summation (Put it Back), who rated in midpack early, rallied for second and returned $4.40 and $3.80 as the 7-2 third choice. One length behind was 16-1 longshot Jungle Prince (Sir Cat), who also rallied from near the back and paid $8.20. Sailors Sunset was a neck farther back in fourth and was followed by Spot the Diplomat (Worldly Manner), Silver Stetson Man (Silver Charm), Johnny Eves, Barbecue Eddie and Winsome Charm. Street Boss ran his win streak to five races in the Bing Crosby, garnering his third graded score following wins in the Los Angeles H. (G3) and Triple Bend Invitational H. (G1). His lifetime mark now stands at 11-7-2-0 with $581,800 in earnings. He was bred in Kentucky by Brilliant Stable and brought the gavel down at $300,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The winner is out of the stakes-placed Blushing Ogygian (Ogygian) and counts himself as a half-brother to dual Grade 2-placed Habiboo (Unbridled's Song), as well as an unnamed two-year-old colt by Unbridled's Song and an unnamed yearling filly by Speightstown. His third dam, the Group 1-placed Fruhlingstag (Fr) (*Orsini II), is responsible for multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire Running Stag (Cozzene).
